A catamaran tracks exceptionally well in a following sea. Mono hulls tend to plough into the front wave as it comes down, then broach down the face. Cats are more buoyant in the bow, and have a wider, more stable stance in the water. We’ve put a lot of time into developing our hulls to give you the best security and stability possible. On the plane, the hulls lift the bows well out of the water, helping prevent bow steer in all conditions.

The key to the Blackdog Cat’s soft ride is in the tunnel, and in the way the air forms a pillow where the cat meets the water. Size for size, head to head, a cat will outperform a mono-hull any day. So if comfort is important for you, then a Blackdog Cat will give you the best ride out there.

One of the defining factors of a Blackdog Cat is how soft they ride, even when it gets choppy. Time and time again we prove during demos that you can count on your Blackdog Cat to get you through the rough stuff.

Anyone who drives a monohull can drive a catamaran – it’s a breeze! It’s true they handle slightly differently, but as any Blackdog Cat owner will tell you, learning takes no time. Ask for a demonstration and you’ll be a pro in no time.

We see another Blackdog Cat hit the water every one to two weeks, with each boat taking around three months from design to your first on-the-water demo and handover.

We also work with you to customise your Blackdog Cat so you get the gear you need for the boating you want – and nothing you don’t. That goes from ski poles for biscuiting to fishing rod configurations, all the way to taller cabins and wheelchair accessible Blackdog Cats. There’s no limits.

Since we started building Blackdog Cats, we’ve been amazed to hear what people think a catamaran can and can’t do. All Blackdog Cats are catamarans, guaranteeing you better stability and more comfort than a monohull. Even when the water’s rough, you’ll get comfortable riding and better handling. You’ll also get more cabin space for all your gear and tackle.

Currently, due to the limited number of Blackdog Cats that have been built (338, as of August 2021), there is a huge demand for them second hand. At Blackdog Cat we constantly get enquiries about second hand boats for sale. Owners are frequently trading in their old boat to upgrade to the latest and greatest design – they never take long to sell.

The simple answer is no. Both at the boat ramp, and on the beach, a catamaran is much easier to get back on the trailer. At the ramp, the boat naturally finds its centre on the trailer, due to the rollers that support the boat through the tunnel. You can drive the boat up all the way to the winch. On the beach, the boat sits flat, so all that is needed is to line up the trailer, and winch the boat straight on. No need to hold it level.
